Sebastian Perłowski was the only non-Asian artist qualified for the semi-final of Hong Kong International Conducting Competition for Chinese Music 2014. He also received the Special Award of the Jury. It was another success of the Polish conductor, after winning conducting competitions in the United States and Spain earlier this year.
In 2014 the Hong Kong International Conducting Competition for Chinese Music was organised by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra for the second time. The first and second round of the competition was held at the Xi'an Conservatory of Music, while the semi-final and final took place in Hong Kong. The Jury of the competition consisted of, among others, Zhao Jiping, Chairman of Chinese Musicians' Association and Yan Huichang, artistic director and chief conductor of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.
Year 2014 proved to be very successful for the Polish conductor, who had previously won the International Conducting Competition in Georgia, United States and in Cordoba, Spain.
Sebastian Perłowski graduated with honours from the Departments of Opera and Symphonic Conducting and Composition in the Jazz Institute of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. He was also a scholar of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as well as a double scholar of the Marshall of the Śląskie Voivodeship. He polished up his skills under the tutelage of Jorma Panula, Jin Wang, Adrian Gnam and Yuri Simonov. He was the finalist of the International Conducting Competition at Lisboa and the winner of the third prize at the International Competition for Conductors in Bucharest.
The artists composing debut took place in 2001 when the Polish Radio Channel 2 recorded his Aria for String Orchestra and Solo Violin. One year later, on 12th May 2002, the artist appeared in the role of a conductor for the first time and conducted his piece Rhapsody for the String Orchestra, Big-Band and Fortepiano Solo during the 7th Nowohucka Music Spring Festival. In 2010, he started collaborating with the Cracow Orchestra on a regular basis. The artist actively works as a composer, arranger and conductor on jazz and entertainment stages.
